Can the Denver Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Lakers in a seven game series?
Even though the Western Conference’s packed with talent, mostly young talented teams, but talent nonetheless, there are only two teams in the conference to really look like legitimate title contenders right now in the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers and the up-and-coming Denver Nuggets.
Last season both these teams led by superstars Kobe Bryant in Carmelo Anthony met in the Western Conference finals where four-time the Nuggets gave the eventual NBA champions a run for their money, especially on their home floor in Denver, but ultimately Kobe Bryant and company prevailed and went on to win another NBA title convincingly over the Orlando Magic.
This season most people road off the Denver Nuggets somewhat of a fluke and didn’t give them much of a chance of playing anything like they did last season. When the main reasons for the Denver Nuggets resurgence last year was the trade involving Allen Iverson going to the Detroit Pistons and hometown boy in point guard Chauncey Billups coming back to the Denver Nuggets.
When this trade went down a lot eyebrows were raised around the league as many people believed that the Denver Nuggets were on the verge of turning it around with Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson leading the way, but unfortunately for Iverson, the Nuggets management had made up their minds and decided his time for the former NBA MVP to move on.
Ultimately, the trade was one of the best trades to ever be made by the Denver Nuggets in their franchise’s history. Chauncey Billups was exactly what the Nuggets needed as he brought stability to both the offense and the defense.
The one thing that was sorely lacking in the Iverson era in Denver was defensive intensity which was a run at considering that the 11 time All-Star is one of the best defensive guards in the league always seems to lead his team in steals and is in the top 10 in steals in the league.
So they know one of the best players ever to put on a Denver Nuggets uniform was gone, Chauncey Billups was an extremely smart player that made the nuggets that much better than was able to lead his team to the Western Conference finals playing alongside Carmelo Anthony.
Now the Nuggets have the daunting task trying to figure out how to beat the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. The one thing that is always kept him competitive the Lakers the physicality they always tend to play very physical against Kobe Bryant and company it seems to work, but they can’t seem to close out the Lakers the fourth quarter is always owned by Kobe as the Nuggets have actually no answer for him.
This season the Nuggets have already beaten Lakers and the played extremely well against the defending champs, but was most recent games the Lakers after Kobe came through in the clutch once again.
These two teams will meet one more time on April 8th before a possible playoff matchup that could be the confidence builder for either team going into the playoffs. The Denver Nuggets are a great young team that will be a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference for years to come, but I believe the Los Angeles Lakers are just a better all around team and will prevail if these two meet once again in the playoffs.
