The Houston Rockets have been arguably one of the best teams in the Western Conference for quite some time now as they always seem to put a playoff bound basketball team on the floor every single season.
Unfortunately, last season was the exception as the Rockets had to deal with more injury problems and some serious changes to their roster.

Not only was superstar center out of the season after injuring his foot in playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers in the previous season, but the Rockets decided to finally part ways with injury prone superstar Tracy McGrady.

Even though Tracy McGrady was finally healthy and ready to contribute to the team, the Houston Rockets had already moved on as they signed Trevor Ariza in the offseason and saw the emergence of an NBA star in Aaron Brooks. With the Rockets having somewhat of a youth movement with some promising young players, Houston and McGrady came to an agreement to organize a trade and officially part ways.

Ultimately, McGrady was traded away in a three-way deal which included both the Sacramento Kings and the New York Knicks. As a result, McGrady went to the Big Apple to try and give them a late season boost in order to compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Unfortunately, despite have some limited success in his short time with the Knicks, McGrady was struck with the injury bug once again and didn’t really play that many minutes and might be on the verge of retirement as a result.

Even though Tracy McGrady’s future in the league is seriously in doubt as of right now, his former superstar running mate Yao Ming will have a big decision to make this summer as he can opt out of his contract.

Much like McGrady, Yao has dealt with some serious injury problems over the years and rarely plays 82 games in the regular season. This past season was a major blow for Yao and the Rockets as they basically had to play with the second team the entire season.

Now Yao will have to decide if he wants to opt out of his contract or not and test free agency after missing an entire season with an injury.

Obviously, the free agent market will not be kind to Yao Ming as no team likes to sign a free agent that is coming off a major injury. Even though many teams will most likely try and stay away from an injury prone superstar center like Yao Ming, he might get lucky with a team like the New York Knicks who are trying to completely revamp their NBA franchise with big-names like LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

It is uncertain which big-name players the New York Knicks will be able to bring in, but Yao Ming would be a welcome addition if David Lee heads elsewhere or the Knicks refuse to re-sign him.

In my opinion, it wouldn’t be a wise decision for Yao Ming to test free agency as he might not like what he sees, but he may have a better chance at winning an NBA title by heading elsewhere.
